What our clients say...

We found that the help and advice offered by Irwin Mitchell's client liaison service has been vitally important at a time when we all really needed support.  It has been accurate and professional but, above all, shown a genuine understanding and concern for our feelings during a very difficult time and has enabled us, as a family, to cope so much better than we could have done on our own.

About Philip's role

I am a Partner and lead a team specialising in head injury claims. I have particular expertise in road traffic collision cases, and accidents at work.

Charity and community work

I am regularly involved in Charity events, and have regular commitments to Brake, the Road Safety Charity, the Child Brain Injury Trust and Headway particularly in North Worcestershire.

I am President of Headway North Worcestershire and have been a Trustee for 15 years.

My charity stunts have involved a number of tandem skydives on behalf of different charities notably Headway and the Child Brain Injury Trust. I have dressed as a Zak the Zebra for Brake, the Road Safety Charity and went down a zip wire from the top of Birmingham City Football Stadium. I recently appeared as the "Easter Bunny" delivering eggs to children at the Birmingham Children's Hospital School. I have abseiled for a number of charities and drove the support vehicle on a Wolverhampton to Paris bike ride to raise money for the County Air Ambulance.

Memberships and professional organisations

  • Member of the Law Society's Personal Injury Panel.
  • Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (“APIL”) - Senior Litigator.
  • Member of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
  • Regional co-ordinator of APIL for the Midlands.

Cases of mention

I have acted in the following significant cases:

  • McDonnell v Birmingham City Council (a case for a 2 year old with major brain damage after getting into a lake in Council run park).
  • Luhar v Fox (damages in excess of £5m).
  • Caple v Sewall (a leading case on damages in marine based accidents).
  • Page v Lee (a leading Court of Appeal Case from 2003 dealing with awards in high value claims).
  • Folks v Faizey (Court of Appeal decision on issues of a person’s mental capacity to bring a personal injury claim).

I have handled numerous cases of high value on behalf of clients who have sustained serious head injuries

Spare time and hobbies

My passion is sport, and at my age I have now moved into coaching - and I manage an Under 13s team in the Wolverhampton area - Coven United. I enjoy music - unfortunately mainly alternative 1980s music. I read a lot - mainly biographies and auto biographies of people like Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton and other important players on the international stage. I am also a supporter of and some time season ticket holder at West Bromwich Albion FC.

My main role outside of work is spending time with my family of two boys - being their taxi service and providing a bank for them to withdraw from regularly! Luckily we share an interest in sport and I now get to play with them, coach them, and watch them play football, cricket, basketball and swimming.
