What our clients say...

We would like to thank you for all your help and advice throughout the case. The way you treated both Mavis and myself in such a friendly and close relationship was really helpful and appreciative. I felt I could ring you with any problem that I might have had and nothing was too much trouble to you.

Scottish Head Injury Forum (SHIF)

16/01/2012

In 1995 the Scottish Head Injury Forum was formed to raise awareness of the many problems that can follow a serious head or brain injury and that are often unrecognised or underestimated, even by professionals.

The main focus of SHIF’s work has been education, and each year it organises three one-day conferences. These are aimed at a largely non-specialist audience of health, local authority, and third sector professionals who work with brain injured people and their families as part of a wider remit.

The SHIF conference in Larbert which was held on 25th March 2011 was devoted to legal issues arising out of brain injury. David Bell of Irwin Mitchell Scotland LLP gave an excellent keynote address, based on his extensive experience as a personal injury solicitor. Other speakers covered the Adult Support and Protection Act, assessment of capacity after brain injury, the role of the brain injury case manager when legal issues arise, advocacy services, an update on the Mental Health (Scotland) Act, and issues that arise out of criminal behaviour after brain injury.

The audience of almost 90 people greatly enjoyed these talks and delegates attended workshops which provided a less formal atmosphere in which to discuss some of these topics in more detail and to ask questions.
